Job Description

Senior Software Engineer (multiple positions) (Akamai Technologies, Inc.; Cambridge, Massachusetts): Will leverage proven distributed systems experience to work with engineering, test, and operation teams to build, test, and deploy both new functionality and improvements to our fault tolerance systems. The Senior Software Engineer will develop large-scale, large-volume, and highly distributed systems. An ideal candidate will have distributed system development experience, strong analytical abilities, excellent teamwork and communication skills, and the ability to design, implement, and maintain complex systems. You will be part of a highly skilled software engineering team responsible for the software that powers a scalable, highly distributed fault tolerant network of servers. The senior software engineer will interface with various elements of Akamai's world-class infrastructure such as mapping, customer care systems, and the Akamai Network Operations Command Center.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Master's Degree or an equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications or related field plus 1 year of related pre- or post-Master's experience

Alternative: Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications or related field plus 5 years of post-baccalaureate related experience

MUST HAVE: Proven solid ability developing distributed applications/services and working with UNIX/Linux operating system and C or C++; prior work experience in network-oriented software development; experience with Internet Security, firewalls, and/or Linux iptables; experience with Linux internal; experience with client/server development; strong analytical skills, attention to detail and excellent problem solving/troubleshooting skills; and excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be highly driven, have a positive attitude, be a team player, be self-motivated and very flexible.
