Job Description
Facebook Reality Labs is a world leading establishment dedicated to pushing the scientific and technological state of the art in virtual and augmented reality. We are currently seeking innovative researchers with a passion for technology to join our team in Redmond, WA.
This role is focused on developing advanced microphone array signal processing methods to tackle hard unsolved problems related to AR and VR audio. The areas of interest include (but not limited to) microphone array design and optimization, source separation and enhancement, source localization and tracking, sound field capture and reproduction. The position is full-time employee (FTE) and requires a PhD in audio engineering, signal processing, acoustics, electrical engineering, computer science or similar, and a strong background in solving hard problems in audio.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Lead research projects from their inception to proof of concept
Develop algorithms and signal processing techniques, execute complex measurements, carry out analysis and report results
Collaborate with the larger Facebook Reality Labs team and provide creative leadership on audio related technologies
Mentor MS/PhD interns and collaborate with external academic groups to advance our research goals
Publish research results in top-tier journals and conferences and be an active member of the relevant scientific community
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD and/or postdoctoral assignment in the field of Audio Engineering and Signal Processing, Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
5+ years experience with development of audio signal processing-related algorithms
5+ years experience with scientific programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, C++, or similar
3+ years experience in microphone/loudspeaker array processing
Experience constructing audio-specific proof-of-concept and system performance evaluations
Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Must be available to start employment on or after January 1, 2019
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Experience with spatial audio and auditory perception
Experience with room acoustics
Experience with speech processing for speech recognition
Proven track record of achieving results as demonstrated by conference publications or journal articles at Acoustical Society of America (ASA), Audio Engineering Society (AES), International conference of auditory displays (ICAD), Journal of Acoustical Society of America (JASA), Frontiers in Neuroscience, Applied Acoustics or Acta Acustica United with Acustica, or similar
