Job Description

Position SummaryNew York University's High Performance Computing (HPC) team is seeking a research cloud technical lead who will work closely with NYU faculty and research groups to develop and adapt cloud technologies to compliment the advanced research computing technologies and resources available on premises at NYU. Responsibilities include design, implementation, and support for scaling-up in-house, centrally available NYU HPC, Big Data, and data management capabilities to a cloud infrastructure to take advantage of technologies such as, virtualization, containers, and OpenStack to improve service, and add capacity and capabilities. The research cloud technical lead will work closely with NYU IT Cloud Services teams and the research community to provide ongoing testing, benchmarking, support, troubleshooting, and maintenance of research cloud applications. This position will develop training material, conduct hands-on training sessions, in-person consultations, and provide online documentation to assist NYU scholars and their collaborators to efficiently utilize public, private and hybrid cloud technologies in their research and teaching. Qualifications Required Education:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or related field. Preferred Education:Master's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Experience:3+ years 3 years of demonstrated experience of deploying, managing, and using public or in-house cloud technologies. Experience in cloud deployment focused on research computing applications. Experience with High Performance Computing infrastructure, workflows, resource managers, usage and systems' health monitoring, and data transfer tools. Experience with design, building and deploying containers (Docker, Singularity) in an HPC environment. Experience with computational support for academic research Preferred Experience:5+ years of work experience, having a record of successes in architecting systems in AWS, OpenStack, Google Cloud Platform, or other public cloud offerings. Experience working in an academic research environment. Experience with building secure data environments in-house on public clouds. Experience with Big Data Analytics framework. Experience with container management frameworks. Experience with Jupyter. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Excellent interpersonal communication, presentation and written and verbal communication skills, including documentation and customer support. Proven expertise with the linux OS and bash scripting. Domain expertise in the AWS, Azure, GCP, and other public cloud offerings. Deep proven expertise in cloud architecture. Drive to continually expand knowledge in the areas of new technological developments and trends. Ability to present technical concepts in clear manner to customers through demos, proposals and presentations. Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Experience with Linux server provisioning and configuration management tools (ex. Ansible, Salt, Puppet). Experience with OpenStack and OpenShift frameworks. Previous engagement in cloud bursting. Desire and ability to write blog or white paper content on relevant technical subjects.
