Hughes has an exciting opportunity for a Site Reliability Engineer to join the Business Applications Support (BAS) team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Germantown, MD.

Responsibilities:

* Identify recurring problems and build the tools and processes to prevent problems from recurring
* Build the tools and processes to help quickly triage issues and identify the component(s) that need to be fixed
* Identify and build monitoring and alarming solutions
* Work with distributed teams to ensure that components are properly instrumented to be reliably used, monitored, and debugged in the service
* Day to day support of multiple Production and Test environments for Domestic and International Business Systems.
* Installation, configuration, deployment, testing and verification of deployed software and support aspects with other members of the BAS team.
* Upgrading and patching COTS and deploying future application software and COTS releases/upgrades per deployment schedules.
* Design & Develop test automation tools using Python, Perl, Selenium, REST API and UNIX Shell scripts

This position requires on-call support with off-hour and weekend deployments at times.

Basic Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree in CS, IS or related technical field
* 2 years of work experience

Preferred Qualifications

* Good verbal and written communication skills, effective problem solving, documentation, configuration and interpersonal/team skills
* Experience with Redhat Linux and/or Windows operating systems
* Experience with UNIX shell, Perl, Python or similar scripting languages
* Knowledge of Oracle, MSSQL or other Database software
* Knowledge of REST/SOAP XML/JSON API's
* Knowledge of administrating different COTS products, such as: Apache, IIS, JBoss, WebSphere, Coldfusion
* Knowledge of VMWare, containers and other virtualization technologies
* Knowledge of networking technologies - LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, IPV4, IPV6, switching, routing
* Experience with writing programs/scripts to automate manual tasks.
* Experience with Anisible, Selenium or other automation software.
* Experience in mission critical environments and experience in supporting a 24x7 production network operations center
