We not only know the aches and pains of our prospective customer. We've lived them. They are Wall Street analysts, fund managers and traders checking multiple disparate data sources, many times a day, every day, to get the answers they need around the stocks they follow. They spend millions on research, and keep fingers crossed that they'll surface new developments before they become irrelevant in the fast-changing space that is theirs. Our CEO, once a well-renowned technology analyst, could see the need for more a better solution. Enter DISCERN.
DISCERN is a SaaS provider for the financial services industry located in the heart of downtown San Francisco. We are developing state-of-the-art web applications to automate and transform financial decision-making through personalized signaling and analytics. DISCERN aggregates all of the user’s disparate, relevant data into one browser-accessible location and deliver Signals (alerts) on developments important to the user, based on the user's own personalizable thresholds. Our platform serves up a mix of classic financials and unique data sets, allowing users to boost their competitiveness, save time and focus on discovering actionable insights. Our in-house subject matter experts, once analysts themselves, guide the data we curate, collectively covering energy, healthcare, banking, housing, REITs, technology and consumer retail, in addition to China and U.S. macro strategy. Join our movement to offer investment decision-makers a persistent information advantage by combining subject-matter expertise with data – quite literally changing the way investment analytics is done.
DISCERN’s vision was inspired by the work of former Lehman Brothers research analyst Harry Blount and The National Academy of Sciences (NAS). The NAS Committee for Forecasting Future Disruptive Technologies invited Blount and to help conduct a research study for the purpose of creating a set of methodologies to help investors discern patterns of surprise in the market. At the end of his tenure with NAS, Blount formed DISCERN, applying his insights to create a suite of products designed for asset managers. The name “DISCERN” springs from the company’s mission to help decision-makers who rely on massive amounts of data to discern what's relevant for their specific business purposes, filtering out “noise” in favor of relevant signals. In May of 2014, the company was ranked among CIO Review’s list of 100 Most Promising Big Data Companies.
