Everything around you has one thing in common - it was probably moved on a truck at some point. It might sound crazy, but despite it being such a massive part of the US economy, trucking hasn't really changed much in the past 20 years - a truck picks something up at one loading dock, drives thousands of miles across the country, and then drops it off at another loading dock. There are over 100 billion dollars of waste associated with lost productivity amid this process, and we all experience that waste in the form of increased transportation costs and carbon emissions (not to mention the millions of truck drivers who aren't getting paid when their truck isn't moving). We want to target these inefficiencies at their core with an innovative solution.
Baton tackles this problem with a network of "drop zones" placed outside of major metro areas. Instead of driving into traffic or waiting around for an appointment, drivers leave and pick up loaded trailers at 24/7 Baton sites, and our local drivers handle the final pickup and delivery process more efficiently. Behind this service lies the modern software platform and API that allows our team to scale operations and to deliver our customers best-in-class service. We're currently live in Los Angeles and handling dozens of loads every day, with plans to expand to more major transportation hubs in the next few months.
We cofounded Baton with a $3.5B Venture firm (8VC), and are now live in LA with some of the largest and most respected trucking companies in the US. In February 2021 we raised a $10.5MM Series A that will allow us to prove our product at scale and build our the core infrastructure to do so. Our advisors/investors include Alan Gershenhorn (former CCO UPS), Craig Fuller (CEO Freightwaves), Justin Hall (from CCO YRC), John Larkin (Partner of Clarendon Capital - PE firm focused on transportation), Prologis (largest owner of industrial real estate in the world), the Flexport Founders, SV Angel, and the founder of UShip.
