IT Project Managers are computer experts who work for an array of different organizations. Their main role is to oversee computer-related projects such as system upgrades, security problems, network management and training. Seeing the project through from start to finish, their duties include planning, scheduling, budgeting, risk management and contract negotiations.
The IT Project Manager needs to have formal education and training in computer science, information systems, computer engineering or information technology. Some companies might also prefer professional certification such as the CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) designation. The IT Project Manager must be able to lead and work with a team. Additionally, because they have to interact with executives, vendors, consultants and outside contractors, they must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
In New York City, the IT Project Manager might find work with a consulting firm, technology company or a new start-up. The largest city in the United States, New York City is very lively. It offers four seasons for all types of weather. For commuters, the city provides a very dependable subway system that goes from as far as Jersey City to Far Rockaway. In their spare time, New Yorkers enjoy boating, ice skating, going to nightclubs or attending Broadway shows. Historical landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, the Metropolitan Museum and Empire State Building are all part of the New York landscape.
