Network Engineers (sometimes described as Network Architects) are tasked with designing and implementing computer networks. They provide day-to-day support to ensure efficient network performance. They’re also responsible for choosing the appropriate data components as well as configuring network hardware to satisfy corporate needs. Other duties include troubleshooting networks, performing system upgrades and ensuring security.
A large percentage of Network Engineers are employed within the tech, healthcare, finance and professional services industry. They may work in large companies or in smaller firms where they double as network administrators. Most employers prefer that engineers have at least a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or a related field.
